The LIVE Life Project Story...It's only the beginning!

Welcome to the "LIVE Life Project" blog! This blog was created to help others Love life, Inspire life, Value life, and Empower life. My friend Jake and I came up with the idea one night after another friend, that would be a total of three friends within a years time, took his life. We hated the fact that we really felt the need to do something, but really didn't know what we could do. Then inspiration struck. Jake and I decided that we would LIVE our life by LIVING our life we would cause others to LIVE theirs and so on. That is our mission, our goal, and our cause...to get you and everyone else to LIVE life!

Now as you already have figured out(hopefully) LIVE is an acronym for Love, Inspire, Value, and Empower. We chose these four words because these are the words that can save a person's life.

Whenever I think of one of my friends who took his life or anyone who took his/her life, I can only imagine the loneliness and hurt that they were feeling. They didn't love their life. They didn't feel love in their life. Of course all these people are loved and you see it in the faces of every single person at the funeral or a memorial service. Realizing this, the "L" in LIVE was a pretty easy word choice. Jake and I decided that if we wanted to help others Love Life, we must love our lives. I've read in books and heard it from many speakers to "Love everything about life. The success, the failure, the challenges." Once we begin to love our life, we can begin to add value and help others love their lives.

Inspire was our word for for "I." Again a pretty simple choice. The definition of "inspire" from webster online dictionary states that to inspire is "to exert an animating, enlivening, or exaulting influence on." Take the time to think of a person who inspires you and how great it is leaving a conversation with that person. When I think of the people who inspire me they have something in common. They inspire through actions, big and small and they say the right thing.

A great question to ask yourself when you have a choice to make "will this inspire or despire." This is a question I've begun asking myself when I have choices to make and I'll be the first to admit that currently I seem to be "despiring" more than "inspiring." It's for sure a process, but in the past two-three weeks I've found myself being more upbeat, working harder, having better relationships with those around me, and experiencing more success. I'm very excited to make inspiring a habit. The coolest thing about inspiration is it seems that the more "inspiring" acts I do, the more inspiring acts I do. It's like a snowball. On the flip side the more "despiring" acts I do, the more despiring acts I do. Begin creating a life of inspiration, again starting with yourself and before you know people around will also be inspired!

"V" was probably the hardest letter to figure a word our for. In the end we chose "Value." I would think that it's agreeable that a person who takes his/her life fails to see the value in themselves. There are so many times when even in my own life its hard to see value. Such as when I experience a setback or failure. Then I think of the people who I've inspired while being a counselor at WASC Leadership Camp or the family and friends that have added value to my life.

Finally we chose to make "E" empower. We were a little bit hesitant at first because we felt that "inspire" and "empower" were to closely related. However after we looked up the meaning of "empower" we were hooked. By definition to empower is to "give authority to." That's exactly what we want to do. We want to give people authority to live the life they want. Give people the authority to be out there and crazy! But, as is a common theme with these words, you can't empower someone else if you can't empower yourself. So empower yourself! Take a chance and step outside of your comfort zone. Do that thing that you've always wanted to do.

I'm confident that if we can start LIVING, it'll spread to others. We can save lives!

Lastly, from time to time Jake, myself, and others will post stories, ideas, pictures, and so forth for the purpose of helping otheres LIVE. So make sure you keep up with what's going on. LIVE it up today!

Just like Harry, You Don't Have to Journey Alone

With the anticipation of the final Harry Potter movie coming out, I figured it would only be right that I took a second to relate Harry Potter to all of us. I'm proud to say that I've read all of the books multiple times, and the most obvious lesson to me throughout the whole series is the importance of allowing our friends to help us with our life journey. This couldn't be clearer than in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." By the way, have no fear, there are only a few small spoilers. We all have our life journey that we are meandering through. Some moments are all sunshine and rainbows, some are dull and uneventful, while others are full of trials which require friends to help us get through. As I was reading Deathly Hallows, I was struck by how Harry acts as he is carrying the locket. His best friends are there with him, yet he feels so lonely, mainly because of the power of the locket horcrux. Similarly, perhaps you can think of a time when it felt like...

Gam Zeh Ya'avor (This Too Shall Pass)

While at WASC Leadership Camp last week, I encountered ancient words of wisdom several times. Those ancient words were a simple phrase, "This Too Shall Pass." My curiosity was sparked, so I googled the phrase and found out that there is a very old story that goes with the phrase. After reading the story I felt like it was only right to share it with you all. This Too Shall Pass Once a king called upon all of his wise men and asked them, ”Is there a mantra or suggestion which works in every situation, in every circumstance, in every place and in every time. In every joy, every sorrow, every defeat and every victory? One answer for all questions? Something which can help me when none of you are available to advise me? Tell me is there any mantra?” All the wise men were puzzled by the King’s question. They thought and thought. After a lengthy discussion, an old man suggested something which appealled to all of them. They went to the king and gave him something written on p...

Build a Bridge

What am I doing? I'm building a door. It's a big door, stretching so high I can't reach the top. It will extend from way over there on that side all the way over there on the other side. You are probably wondering what kind of door I am buidling. It's not an ordinary door with a wood frame and a wooden sill, hinges, a door knob, and all the things that ordinary doors have. No, this door is no ordinary door at all. You see, my door is made out of brick, bricks that are heavy and firm and strong. I can visualize the bricks being black or blue. Each brick has holes in it. You know the kind we liked to stick our fingers in when we were kids. Normally these bricks are used with mortar filling in the holes to give the finished product extra strength. In my door I'm laying bricks on their side so that the holes provide little spaces to see through. When I'm finished my door will be permanent. There will be no door handle on either side. In order for my door to open, ...
