The LIVE It Up Challenge Day 1- Love

Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak to some of Wisconsin's finest leaders at the Wisconsin Association of School Councils(WASC) High School State Conference and I issued out a challenge. When I got home I thought how silly it was that this should pertain JUST to high schoolers, since we should all be challenging ourselves to "LIVE it Up" daily. With that being said, I am issuing out the first part of "The LIVE It Up Challenge."

For the first day of The Challenge, the focus is on LOVE.  Too often we get caught up in our own little world and we forget that there are other people who are going through trials just like we are. I personally find myself getting upset with people because they may have been rude and I have to take a step back and remind myself that I don't know their story. A big part of LIVE is showing people, those we know and those we don't know, that we care about them.

With this in mind I challenged these young leaders to go out of their way and show the people around them that they truly care about them. I challenged them to step outside of their comfort zone to not do these acts for friends, but rather to do them for a stranger, a person who them may not get along with well, or perhaps even a family member. Now I want all of the LIVE followers to do the same. What will you do today to show the people in your world that you care? Will you do something simple like holding the door open? Will you go above and beyond?  I want to see how far we can spread the love! Please make sure to post on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/thelivelifeproject?fref=ts how you chose to spread the love today!!! Also check in to see how Dakota, Jacob, and myself decided to spread the love!

LIVE it Up,

-ZZ

The Starfish Story

The Starfish Story Original Story by: Loren Eisley One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.  Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean.  The surf is up and the tide is going out.  If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish?  You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf.  Then, smiling at the man, he said…” I made a difference for that one.” Are there starfish in your life that are washed up on shore? Is there one person in your life who you could influence for the better? We all have a responsibility to help each other out. Never tell yourself that what you do doesn't make a difference, because to one it could make all the...

Just like Harry, You Don't Have to Journey Alone

With the anticipation of the final Harry Potter movie coming out, I figured it would only be right that I took a second to relate Harry Potter to all of us. I'm proud to say that I've read all of the books multiple times, and the most obvious lesson to me throughout the whole series is the importance of allowing our friends to help us with our life journey. This couldn't be clearer than in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." By the way, have no fear, there are only a few small spoilers. We all have our life journey that we are meandering through. Some moments are all sunshine and rainbows, some are dull and uneventful, while others are full of trials which require friends to help us get through. As I was reading Deathly Hallows, I was struck by how Harry acts as he is carrying the locket. His best friends are there with him, yet he feels so lonely, mainly because of the power of the locket horcrux. Similarly, perhaps you can think of a time when it felt like...

Gam Zeh Ya'avor (This Too Shall Pass)

While at WASC Leadership Camp last week, I encountered ancient words of wisdom several times. Those ancient words were a simple phrase, "This Too Shall Pass." My curiosity was sparked, so I googled the phrase and found out that there is a very old story that goes with the phrase. After reading the story I felt like it was only right to share it with you all. This Too Shall Pass Once a king called upon all of his wise men and asked them, ”Is there a mantra or suggestion which works in every situation, in every circumstance, in every place and in every time. In every joy, every sorrow, every defeat and every victory? One answer for all questions? Something which can help me when none of you are available to advise me? Tell me is there any mantra?” All the wise men were puzzled by the King’s question. They thought and thought. After a lengthy discussion, an old man suggested something which appealled to all of them. They went to the king and gave him something written on p...
